After the wonderful response to the Cricket Brunch, BSH has arranged with the wonderful people at Legends to have them open at 10 am instead of the usual noon opening time, so that we can watch the whole game :)  For those of you who have never been to Legends, you have to come!  It is arguably the best sports bar in town! 30 screens, projectors, the works!

We look forward to seeing you there!  Please let us know if you are coming and the number of people in your group, so that we can inform the bar. You can register with us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Bharat-Hungary Sangeet Sangam : Hungary-India Musical Confluence

(c) Ria Mendoza, http://www.orangejar.com

A “Hungary-India Musical Confluence” concert is to be held under the joint auspices of the Embassy of India, Budapest, and the Bhartiya Samaj of Hungary (Indian Society of Hungary)
Time: 19.00 hrs
Date: January 31, 2011
Location: Indian Cultural Centre of the Embassy (1025 Budapest, Búzavirág utca 14) [ Map ]

The concert will feature Indian classical music and Hungarian-Indian fusion music presented by outstanding artistes:

  • Ms Ágnes Herczku – Vocalist
  • Tóth Szabolcs – Sitar
  • Robert Sinha – Classical Guitar
  • Tibor Motyán – Tabla

Ms Ágnes Herczku, soloist of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble and recipient of the Fonogram Award, eMeRTON Prize, Zoltán Kodály Memorial Award, Béla Bartók Award and the Award for the Hungarian Arts, will render Hungarian folksongs to the accompaniment of Indian musical instruments. The well-renowned singer has given highly successful concerts not only in Hungary, but in several countries worldwide, including India.

Szabolcs Tóth (Sitar) and Tibor Motyán (Tabla) learnt instrumental music in India. Each of them spent several years in the Asian country and has been visiting there regularly to polish their musical skill as well as to apppear at different concerts. Szabolcs had the rare honour for a European sitarist to give an interview and play live on the Indian State Television. In addition to the numerous performances given in India and Hungary, Szabolcs has appeared in various concerts in the UK, France, Germany, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland.

Classical guitarist Robert Sinha, son of an Indian father and Hungarian mother, represents European music in this concert. He marvellously combines the European instrument with Indian music played by the Sitarist Toth and Tabla-player Motyan. Robert obtained his degree in classical guitar from the Dutch Royal Conservatory in 2006 and ever since has earned fame with his performances in several cities like New York, Paris, Madrid, Brussels, Helsinki, Zaragoza, Bordeaux.

Entry is free for the Sangeet Sangam concert.
